WiiMote Wrist Strap Replacement

Ok so there is an offer to replace your wiimote wrist strap, mine is a little frayed and i don't want it to fly off, not that it will, but just thought i'd check into it if the the fraying gets worse..

BUT it says something about only replacing OLDER straps with a certain serial number, should i still apply anyway or not bother?
