Sony has confirmed this morning that Heavy Rain, one of the biggest exclusives of the year for the PlayStation 3, has been banned in the United Arab Emirates.

Following a report on Middle Eastern gaming site megamers, we contacted Sony, who provided this statement released by their local branch:

The UAE's National Media Council (NMC) has banned Heavy Rain on PlayStation3. Heavy Rain has an 18+ PEGI rating and has been conceived from the earliest stages as a genuinely adult experience. This means that it deals with strong content including blood and nudity, but treats this content in a mature and sensitive manner. The game is not intentionally controversial or sensationalist, and all the themes and content are consistent with what consumers would expect to see in a mainstream Hollywood thriller.

No specific reason given, though you'd imagine it's all the "adult" content spelled out in the statements. Bear in mind that's the release from Sony, not from the NMC. Which is why it reads like "It's been banned, here are very good reasons why it should not have been banned".

It's the second title to be banned this year in the Middle Eastern state, after Darksiders suffered a similar fate. Though, as many local readers pointed out, the ban was only loosely enforced (as previous efforts have also been), meaning anyone in the Emirates looking to get on the Origami Killer's trail probably just needs to shop around a little.

what's the game about, anyways?

btw, MW2 was either banned or altered in Russia because of the third level (airport) where you are a CIA agent disguised as one of Makarov's men, and go through Zakaev International Airport killing civilians and frame the US.

Heavy Rain[9][10]is a video game developed by Quantic Dream exclusively for the PlayStation 3.[11]The game is directed by Quantic Dream's founder and CEO David Cage,[12]who also wrote and directed the studio's two previous games, Omikron: The Nomad Souland Fahrenheit.

According to a demonstration given to Edgemagazine, the game will use a unique control scheme.[19]A trigger button on the PlayStation 3 controller will move the character forward. It will take advantage of the button's analogue function, allowing the user to control the speed of the character's movement by pressing harder or softer on the button. The left analogue stick will control the movement of the character's head and the direction the character moves in relation to where the character is looking. David Cage explains that this frees the movement of the character from the perspective of the camera.

no thanks game makers, I'm fine with using the analouge stick to control speed and camera...

I've played the Demo and part of the actual game and it wasnt that bad at all. Its like any episode of CSI really. I'm kinda shocked that they would ban it, but then again, I'm not really.
