its a very useful tool that combines options like instant messaging and buddy tracking through the network.
You can see if your peeps(using Xfire) are playing or not, what server they r on, open slots, etc, and you cna also chat with that person while in game via a neat pop-up window that will run while in game(turned on/off by hotkey)
As I said, very useful and fun, not a very large download, some speculation that it can mess with your system and cause a crash which is rare but noteable, and it does not hog the system at all, in fact i think less than aim does.
