"US, August 17, 2007 - Nintendo's game download service for the Wii has so far consisted of classic games from older consoles like the NES, Genesis and TurboGrafx. That's about to change, according to a report from Nikkei.
The Japanese news service reports today that Nintendo will begin offering new games for download at the beginning of 2008. Initially, the downloadable titles will focus on puzzle and edutainment genres. Eventually, Nintendo will expand to action games and larger productions.
In addition to its own internal productions, Nintendo will also act as a publisher for games from smaller developers. The Nikkei report did not mention how third party publishers would fit into the download program.
Pricing for downloadable titles is expected to be below 1,000 yen (approximately $8)."
