2012 - The end of the world??

Nasa says that the poles are going to reverse by then or that the end of the world is coming or that the mayans are returning from outer space to take back Earth...

Is this all tabloid or is there anything really proven and substantial that is going to happen?

Another thing I have noticed is that they say all this crap, but they never say "we are going to do something about it". They never said it about Y2K and it did not happen.

False, obviously. The most similar thing to the apocalypse have been the two World Wars, and nothing remotely similar to them has happened in the different dates over time labeled as "end of the world".

I don't know why they'd use made up dates as the apocalypse, though. For profit? To scare people just for the heck of it?
