by play online, do you mean playing against someone?

to do that you have to have a Wi-Fi game. and the only wi-fi game for Wii right now is Pokemon: Battle Revolution....

you need games that utilise the wireless capabilities and then have your friends wii code (unique wii identifier) to play them
