I'm planning on making a campaign based off of the Icewind Dale Trilogy, with the help of my friend Abelhawk, and anyone else who might want to pitch in. Abelhawk and I are going to make a sort of beta map first, though, to test our map-making skills.
In the campaign, the playable races will be dwarves, barbarians, and the people of Ten-Towns, along with other neutral units. There will also be the duergar (gray dwarves) as a computer-controlled race which the player gets to fight at the end.
Anyway, the Icewind Dale Trilogy is a story, writtin by R.A. Salvatore, about a dark elf named Drizzt who ran away from his evil kin a long time ago and ended up in Icewind Dale, where he befriended the dwarf, Bruenor Battlehammer, a young human woman named Catti-brie, and a halfling named Regis. During the story, he also befriends Wulfgar, a young barbarian who had been captured by Bruenor a long time ago.
In the first book, The Crystal Shard, a wizard finds a crystal in Icewind Dale called Crenshinibon. The crystal, which has a will of its own, tempts the wizard with untold power. He uses the Crystal Shard to gain control over hundreds of orcs, goblins, and trolls, and even recieves the aid of a powerful demon who has been searching for the Crystal Shard for centuries. The wizard takes his army and launches an invasion on Ten-Towns, a trade city in Icewind Dale.
Wulfgar returns to his barbarian tribes and gets them to help the people of Ten-Towns. There is a massive battle, in which Drizzt and his friends play a big part. In the end, they defeat the wizard and his army, and Drizzt sends the demon back to the dimesion it came from. Near the end, Bruenor persuades Drizzt to help him find his lost home, Mithril Hall. Drizzt, Bruenor, and Wulfgar set out, but their halfling friend, Regis, follows after them, more to escape an assassin named Artemis Enteri who was sent to capture him.
The second book, Streams of Silver, involves the friends in their adventure to Mithril Hall. Artemis Entreri capture Catti-brie and plans to use her when he finds the others. He also gets aid from a wizard and a soldier, who are after Drizzt because they think he has the Crystal Shard, which is actually buried under an avalanche in the first book. When the friends get to Mithril Hall, Catti-brie escapes and meets up with them. They move into the mountain, and are attacked by duergar (evil dwarves). Artemis and his companions catch up with them, and Drizzt and the assassin are seperated from the others. They fight, but when the duergar try to kill them, they make a temporary alliance so that they can find their way out.
Bruenor and his friends fight off the wizard and a bunch of duergar, and are eventually faced by Shimmergloom, a black dragon from the dimension of Darkness. Bruenor kills it, but is sent down a large chasm, and his friends think he is dead. Entreri escapes from Drizzt, captures Regis, and leaves. Drizzt meets up with his friends, and they go after Entreri.
In the final book, The Halfling's Gem, so-called for the hypnotic ruby Regis has, Drizzt and Wulfgar follow Entreri while Catti-brie stays behind to send word to nearby dwarven kingdoms and the barbarians of Icewind Dale to gather an army and take back Mithril Hall. During that time, Bruenor fights his way through the duergar and reunites with Catti-brie. They catch up with Drizzt and Wulfgar, and the four of them continue on to Calimport, where Entreri took Regis. There, they fight a bunch of were-rats (similar to werewolves, but rats instead), and Drizzt fights Enteri again. Entreri leaves, and Drizzt is forced to continue looking for Regis, who is now captive to Entreri's boss, the leader of the Thieves Guild. The Guild leader is killed, and Drizzt and his friends defeat his minions. Regis, using his hypnotic gem, gets the guild members to promote him to leader of the Thieves Guild.
After that, Drizzt and his friends return to Mithril Hall, where an army of dwarves and barbarians are waiting. They defeat the duergar and take back Mithril Hall.
The above should be more than enough to know what the Icewind Dale Trilogy is about.
If anyone would like to help, just let me know, and I'll take it into consideration. Remember, though, that Abelhawk and I won't necessarily do this for a while.
Below are some examples of models I have made. They aren't completely done, but when I'm finished with them, they should look a lot better. I'm also working on models of Artemis Entreri and Wulfgar.
