Sorry about the double post, but has Sony fixed the issue with backwards playability on the newer models? And Are the 80GB versions normally sold in U.S. stores?

Sorry if this is in some other thread somewhere, but I need to know if PS3s support PS1 and PS2 memory cards.
You need to buy an adaptor thats around $20.

40gb wont ever have PS2 capability, but 20, 60, and 80gb models work fine with PS2 games.

Suprised that the 40 gb doesnt support the ps2 as they have with the other versions and previous consoles played older games,shame..... thought they would have continued the trend

Sony hated people saying their console was to expensive, so the only way to make it drastically cheaper was to completely take out the hardware used to play ps2 games (since by their surveys many PS3 owners didn't even play PS2 games anymore). And since PS1 is all done by software emulation it did not affect the price, therefore it stayed.

Thats why the 40gb is far cheaper than the 80gb version.
