For Konami, Things Are Hard Without Metal Gear Solid

Konami is home to some of the biggest franchises in gaming history, think Pro Evolution Soccer and Metal Gear Solid. So in the absence of these two titles, the company's financial results are rather grim.

That's Konami's own fault. Outside of Metal Gear and Pro Soccer, they haven't truly tried to grow some of their key franchises. And them attempting to revamp Castlevania now is too little too late in my opinion.

If they actually cared a bit more about their other franchises like Contra or Z.O.E they'd have a better outlook. But instead, they want to be a Kojima fest. Even Mercury steam's Castlevania game has Kojima's stamp on it.

Financially, yes.

But Silent Hill:Downpour might help Konami out a bit, when they release it, but SH still has a big fanbase.

Only time will tell on that. True, it has a pretty decent sized fanbase. But with Konami just sitting on it so long, they can just as easily move on to another game. But what does work in Konami's favor in that regard is the fact that there aren't many survival horror games out there. And Resident Evil hardly counts as survival horror these days.

The thing is Capcom is leaving the door wide open for them. Konami just has to seize the moment. The survival horror crown is just waiting to be grabbed from Capcom's lazy hands.
